Valentine’s Day is approaching fast, so there is no better time to find a gift for that special someone in your life. Most men opt for the traditional chocolates, flowers, and lingerie. If you are interested in buying sexy underwear, there can be a bewildering range to choose from. And, besides, how do you know what will really turn her on? Here, we will look at the underwear that women want to receive.

Before you begin, however, it is extremely important to know her size. Do not be tempted to rush in a store and pick out the first frilliest bra and panties you see. Delivery is an option for those who hate crowded restaurants (or don’t plan ahead,) as reservations will be required—even at some fast food establishments. White Castle and Chick-Fil-A celebrate Valentine’s dining with reservations and private tables which offer candlelight meals for two, complete with flowers, candy, and balloons.

Sweetness abounds on Valentine’s Day, especially at shops which serve treats daily. Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts both offer specialty heart-shaped donuts with unqiue flavors and fillings. Krispy Kreme has traditional glazed hearts as well as chocolate iced heart donuts with red drizzle, cake donuts with white icing and sprinkles, and the triple chocolate: a chocolate iced donut filled chocolate Kreme and topped with brownie crumbles. Krispy Kreme valentine cards (which double as free donut coupons) come with each dozen.

At Dunkin’ Donuts, the new Cupid’s Choice lineup features heart-shaped, yeast-shell donuts filled with Bavarian Kreme, topped with strawberry icing and a festive mix of pink, white and red heart-shaped sprinkles. Chocoholics can try the Cupid’s Cocoa Donut, a heart-shaped chocolate yeast-shell donut filled with jelly, topped with chocolate icing and decorated with pink, white and red sprinkles.”

Frugal Home Evening :

At first thought, staying at home and watching a movie is a comfy occurrence common for most couples. But a bit of planning and film selection can turn a night-in into an evening to remember.

Dinner and a movie can be fun when paired with favorite films and the foods featured therein (or vice versa.) Pick a film featuring food that suits the pallet of your valentine. Base the evening around drinks, viewing, and dining around the “world” of the film. This can be as simple as outfit selection, a fresh table cloth, cheap decorations, or other clever ways to transform the viewing experience. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and that means there is a scramble to find the perfect destination to escape to with your loved one. A Valentine’s Day Break requires romance, a city to explore, a love nest and some fine dining; but with so much choice it can be a hard decision. Below you will find five destinations that could be perfect for you this Valentines.

New York

New York, New York the big city of dreams. The world’s most famous city is certainly a lively destination for a Valentine’s Day break and is the complete opposite to the chic atmosphere of Paris. However there is still plenty of romance to be had in the Big Apple, and with cold weather guaranteed in February there is the chance for couples to keep each other warm. The unique atmosphere of New York will keep couples entertained and help you to fall in love all over again. Taking part in some ice skating in Central Park will no doubt fulfil the romance.

Las Vegas

Vegas will certainly provide a lively Valentine’s Day Break, and with the Sin city renowned for short marriages you may think that visiting Las Vegas for a romantic break is the wrong idea. Whether you are coming to Indianapolis for Superbowl 2012 or just a vacation, the city has a lot to offer in terms of nightlife. There are two main “hot spots” for nightlife in Indianapolis; downtown and Broad Ripple Avenue. There are a handful of bars and clubs throughout downtown, with several being along Maryland Street. Downtown has a bar or club that will accommodate any group size and scene you are looking for. Here are three bars downtown that my team highly recommends you check out:

1. Nicky Blaines- If you are looking for a quieter, classy scene where you can

   sip on a martini while puffing on a cigar, this is the bar to go to! It’s really nice inside and is a great place to converse over drinks and a cigar.

2. Kilroy’s Bar and Grill- If you want to reminisce about the good old college times, Kilroys is the bar to go to. It’s also the alumni bar for Indiana University; Go Hoosiers! There are plenty of tables and booths to accommodate any party size.
3. Taps and Dolls- The awesome part about Taps and Dolls is that they have several different levels with a different atmosphere at each level. With different choices of scene and music, you’re sure to find a floor that has everything you’re looking for.

If you want a change from the downtown scene, Broad Ripple Avenue is also a hot spot for nightlife! It’s also great for those that want to bar hop and visit multiple venues since everything is within 3-4 blocks. Broad Ripple also has a younger crowd, with many college students and recent graduates living in the area. If you decide to go out one night on Broad Ripple (which you should), my team recommends checking out these 3 bars:

1. Rock Lobster- You are sure to have a great time when you make a stop at Rock Lobster. They have a really big dance floor and great DJ. If you don’t want to dance, they have tables along the dance floor and multiple bars in the back to talk with friends over drinks. Their drinks are really reasonably priced and the atmosphere is lively and energetic. For those wanting to relive their college days, or maybe meet a guy or girl, Rock Lobster is where you need to go!
2. Casba- Casba is located right next to Brother’s bar and grill and is also a great place for dancing. It’s not that large, and when a lot of people are dancing, those wishing to just stand might get dragged onto the dance floor. Casba is usually popping any night, although Saturday nights tend to be more popular because of drink specials.
3. 929- This is a smaller bar, tucked away from the madness, above the Broad Ripple Inn. They are known for their music, club feel, and the owner who dresses up in a Panda suit on special occasions.

Winter traveling can be tough on suitcases.  Not just because of the thankless dragging through snow and slush, but because of the excessive poundage of winter apparel stuffed inside them.  With a little consciousness and some hardworking items, you can avoid the dreaded overweight airline fees for your checked baggage.

As the coveted “curated wardrobe” gains popularity yet remains debatable, one simply cannot dispute the necessity of a curated suitcase.  The suitcase becomes the closet while traveling, forcing essential meticulous packing, a skill that eludes most in our culture of over-preparation and excess.

Because calm preparation and packing with a clear head is not a common situation, compiled are fifteen items that work overtime for use in multiple outfits to make traveling during the colder months a little easier.

Some prefer to pack the winter jacket in their suitcase to use as padding for non-clothing items, but if space is limited and disposable poundage is at a premium, wearing your jacket in the airport and storing it in the overhead bins on the airplane is the way to go.  The same applies to any big boots you might be bringing.  Easy-wearing items like riding boots, jackets, and other outer layers are best suited for travel wear when fussier pieces–pumps, pocketless/unlayerable sweaters, uncomfortable denim–require the cushy ride in the suitcase.

Throw on a tee and slouchy cardigan, a maxi skirt around your neck to function as an oversized circle scarf (you’ll be thankful for so much fabric when you’re freezing on the airplane), tuck some leggings into those boots, and your airport attire is comfortable, cute, and suitcase-friendly.

In the suitcase, you’ll want skinny jeans to tuck into flat boots, longer, trouser-like bootcut/flare jeans, heeled booties, dressy heels, patterned tights, chambray button-down, pumps, versatile, simple LBD to dress up or down, loose crewneck sweater, and a fun belt sized to work at your hips or waist.

The leggings and crewneck can be worn to bed for utter comfort.  The LBD over tights and heels is a chic party look, and you can switch out the pumps for riding boots and add the unbuttoned chambray or belted cardigan (or both!) for a cute hangout outfit.

The chambray also looks perfect loosely-buttoned over skinnies tucked into riding boots, with that maxi-skirt-turned-scarf to top it off, or throw the crewneck over the chambray, paired with the trouser jeans over the heeled booties for a preppy brunch look.

For running errands, keep the booties and trouser jeans, and top them with a tee and belted cardigan.  Look chic and cool for coffee meet-ups with the maxi skirt over your booties for impossibly long legs, topped with your casual tee and cool jacket.

Ease in travel starts with your suitcase, the contents of which are best suited for anyone’s destination when prepared thoughtfully.  Utilize some multi-function pieces to jumpstart your outfit creativity and take the load out of your suitcase a little.  Happy light travels!

In my head, I dream of single holidays, in which I would enjoy some amazing exploits with interesting people and then write about them in a best-selling book. The reality is somewhat more inglorious and I regularly achieve holiday mediocrity. Here’s are a few suggestions on what NOT to do, so you can avoid some of my recurring pitfalls.

The classic horror story of holidaying starts with someone saying to their travelling partner: “Darling, it doesn’t really matter where we go. As long as I’m with you!” Off trots Darling, plotting a dirt cheap getaway so they can have more booze and more money to spend on booze back home.

Mistake.

The loved-up couple arrive in Ayia Napa. Fellow packagers are of the ‘retro’ (read: racist) variety and dismiss the bus driver as a ‘Manuel.’ As they arrive at the hotel, another packager is complimenting a large lady at the bar: “Ya know who ya look like? That bird from Misery, you know the one. Aw yeah, Kathy Bates, that’s the one!” The holiday is pretty much unsalvageable from there: everyone else is more tanned, enthusiastically enjoying the in-house bingo and confidently flaunting the creeping flesh.

The couple return to their grey, rainy homeland, and swear that they will never do it again: from now on they will go with something exciting like activity holidays in South East Asia. Until The Sun offers £10 holidays the year after.

Let your boyfriend book the tickets

Carol books an amazing hotel in Barcelona for a weekend. What’s more is that she gets it for a song thanks to some nifty internet trawling and well-applied vouchers. She buys the guide book and puts cute stars and hearts next to the places she wants to go with her lover boy: Parc Güell for mosaics and vistas, Las Ramblas for some tacky tourist nicknacks, 4Gats for some classy Spanish nosh and Moog for a bit of tail shaking. In one word: amazing.

Her boyfriend Rob has one job: book the tickets. She nags and nags until he gets them, and now she can breathe. Except that they arrive at Bologna. And the only flights they can get to BCN are going to cost £400 each and leave the next afternoon. That’s a lot of good work wasted, a lot of time and effort added to what’s meant to be a nice, relaxing holiday, and a whole lot of resentment bubbling under the surface.

Pack 14 pairs of socks and only one pair of undies

Some people just don’t have basic life skills when it comes to travelling. Take the example of this man when his wife left him to his own devices when packing his suitcase… Well, you read the subtitle, so you know what he did: just don’t do it yourselves.

Interestingly, this happened when he was aged 45 and ran a successful zip manufacturing business. However, you should know that this is also the man who went travelling in his early twenties and forgot to brush his teeth for six months (another hot tip: don’t do this either).

Packing should be pretty simple really. All you need is a passport, some money, the clothes you are wearing and enough underwear (socks and boxers) to see you through the trip. Everything else can be bought out there (usually for cheaper than the UK), and besides, you’ll want to leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs.

Go on a family reunion holiday

Just drink heavily through the colour coded activity plan, as created by your ‘fun’ father-in-law: lilac for new experiences, yellow for meals and snacks, blue for family relaxation time and black for your mood after 2 weeks of intensive, well-co-ordinated, organised fun.

ARIES [March 21-April 20]

What the Heck is Leap Year?

Leap Year is the year we add an extra day to the calendar (February 29^th) to make up for the fact that we actually have 365 ¼ days in a year.  Adding an extra day helps us stay on track.   Otherwise, we’d have that extra ¼ day messing us up.  Our calendars would eventually get out of sync with our seasons and we’d have summer in December (and not because of global warming).

What does Leap Year have to do with Finding Love?

Leap Year reminds us that to get synced up and to stay synced up with someone, you have to take a little leap… a leap of faith if you will.  You have to be willing to put yourself out there.  You have to be willing to take a chance.

Is There Any Way Around the Leap of Faith?

The age old question – How can I find love without taking a chance?  The truth is — you can’t.  Putting yourself out there, being vulnerable is the only way to find love.  But, you can do things to protect yourself so it’s a more calculated risk, with a much greater chance of success – more like hopping off a curb and less like jumping out of an airplane.

Looking Before You Leap

So, how do you protect yourself while putting yourself out there?  The single most important thing you can do is to take it really slow.  You want to get to know someone a little at a time.  And you want to trust them a little at a time.  And you only trust them more if they earn it.  According to Terry Gorski (1993), how someone handles little commitments in a relationship is what paves the way for bigger commitments.  So, when you’re getting to know someone, pay attention to how they treat you.  Do they call when they say they’re going to call?  Do they do what they say they’re going to do?  If they keep their little commitments to you, that’s a good sign that it’s safe to trust them a little more.

For women, it’s especially important to take it slow in the physical area.  Because when women get physical they bond.  According to Luann Brizendine (The Female Brain, 2006), women actually start bonding with a 20 second hug!  So, if she has sex, a woman can end up bonded before she even realizes it.  That’s why sex is such a big risk for a woman.  It requires building up a foundation and commitment first.  Otherwise, it can throw things off balance.              Leaping into Love Together  

If you can take it slow, you also won’t get too far ahead of the other person.  You do want to be vulnerable.  But, you want him or her to be vulnerable too.  The way you do this is by risking and sharing who you are and seeing how the other person responds.  And then when they risk with you, it’s your turn to show them that you’re trustworthy.  It’s never perfectly balanced.  But, overall you both want to be risking and building trust together.   That way your leap into love will be well worth the risk for both of you.

Sometimes 365 day in a year just doesn’t seem like enough time to finally get around to meeting that someone special. Subtract work and family commitments, the time spent compulsively watching episodes of Storage Wars (which has grown substantially with the premiere of Storage Wars: Texas and soon to air Storage Wars: New York), the weekends spent attending other people’s weddings, the hours spent stalking your ex on Facebook, and the amount of time you spend hanging out with other single friends complaining about being single (and, of course, exchanging opinions about the latest episode of Storage Wars, gotta love Barry), and you’re left with roughly 6 day, 14 hours, and 12 minutes (damn you A&E!) in the year.

Fortunately for the forlorn looking for love, 2012 offers one additional day from them to experience their own “meet cute,” to agree to go on one more blind date, convince themselves that a second cousin is far enough down the family tree that one date couldn’t hurt, and to spend a little extra time voyeuristically scanning through eerily similar OkCupid profiles. (Not sure what I’m doing on this site, looking for someone with a sense of humor, I like things that I hope make me seem interesting and only a little pretentious, rinse, repeat, reload, refresh.)

Historically, a leap year held the tradition of being one of the few times a woman could actually propose marriage to a man. A 1606 book titled Courtship, Love and Matrimonie stated that any man who would be so daring as to deny a woman his hand in marriage when asked during a leap year would forego the privilege of attending church. A hefty fine considering the average peasant’s life in the 17th century consisted of a daily routine of toil, sustenance, sleep, and church. To drive the point home with a rhyme, a quote attributed to Chaucer states, “In Leap Year they have power to chuse, the men no charter to refuse.”

While asking a man you just met to marry you might seem like a good idea if you’re a Kardashian, most mothers would tell their daughters to always be wary of marrying any man without first seeing what he keeps in his basement. By the same token, meeting a woman who carries her own engagement ring around waiting to pop the question to the first eligible, or at the very least breathing, bachelor they find can give even the most hopelessly romantic fella a moments pause.

Sadly, such traditions have long lost their sway in our prim and proper world where arranged marriages have been eschewed in exchange for actually getting to know and love a potential mate, and dowries are paid in how many miles away the in-laws live rather than livestock.  Finding love in a leap year, just like in any other, requires a willingness to stay ever positive, to always say yes cause you just never know, and stop wondering why, if, and when. For those of us who have still yet to meet “the one,” 2012 offers one more day, 24 additional hours of hope and promise, and the potential that 366 could be our lucky number.

Singles know how important it is to make a great first impression when going out on a first date. From a guy’s perspective, it takes a lot of courage to go up to a girl you’ve never met before and get to know her to the point you can ask her out. You don’t want to blow this opportunity to meet your future partner. If you are a guy that hasn’t been dating anyone lately, or just haven’t had much luck on dates, you might need a few pointers to turn your luck around.

There are a handful of guys that try and go overboard by planning several things to do on their first date. If you are this person, you are making a big mistake. This isn’t the time to try and impress her with all of the things you can do. Rather, you should impress her by letting her get to know by talking over coffee or lunch. Asking a girl out to dinner can be a big first step, but she is less likely to turn down a cup of coffee or lunch. Take note of these tips as you prepare for the big first date:

DO shower: Do you really think a girl wants to sit next to a guy that smells? Take a shower before going out on any date, especially the first one!

DO carry breath mints or gum: When you are talking with a girl, she doesn’t want to deal with your foul breath. Chew a piece of gum or eat a mint before heading to your date, and again after your meal. Don’t forget to offer her one after the meal too.

DO shave: Girls appreciate guys that take the time to clean up before a date. You don’t want to appear burly and dirty, so make sure to trim your facial hair or shave completely so you don’t look unkempt.

DO eat a snack: If you are going for lunch during the busy noon hour, it may take awhile to get your food. Eat a small snack so you aren’t hungry and appear impatient for your food.

DON’T be late: Being late is rude, especially for a first date. You only get one first impression and the least you can do is be punctual.

DON’T wear too much cologne: Many men spray way too much cologne on for a date. You shouldn’t be smelt a block away; a simple spray or two will be fine.

DON’T drink too much: You might think you can handle your alcohol, but the girl won’t be impressed by how much you can drink on a first date. Limit yourself to no more than 2 drinks; you’ll thank me later for this advice!

DON’T think about letting her pay: A guy pays for the girl on a first date, period!

Many men also struggle to dress properly for their first date. More often than not, the guy will dress extremely nicely for a simple lunch date or for coffee. If you are meeting during a break at work, this is acceptable; no one expects you to change out of your suit. However, if you are meeting over the weekend or a non-work day, don’t go overboard. When in doubt, simple casual works best. Below is an example of how you can dress well for your date while encompassing the latest trends of 2012:

 Layering is popular this winter and spring, and is especially convenient as well. You want to date someone who brings out the sides of you that you love. Don’t date an instigator, and certainly don’t date someone who makes you uncomfortable with who you are.
4. How is the chemistry? Sometimes, determining whether someone is worth dating or not is as simple as whether you feel those butterflies swarming in your stomach. If the answer is “yes,” rejoice in being problem-free. Even if the two of you don’t work out after going on a date, you’ll surely have some sexual magic to take advantage of or at the very least flirtation to keep the night interesting.
5. How do your lifestyles compare? In the beginning stages of dating, lifestyle differences are going to be the most emphasized, whether they are laid-out on the table directly or not. First consider differences that might be life-changing (kids, divorced, finances, etc.), and move down the list from there. If you don’t see any red flags, feel free to move forward with the date.

Ultimately, determining if someone is worth your time is a decision you will have to make, but certainly take into consideration the few on-the-surface details that might save you time, frustration, and even a few bucks along the way. Testing the waters can be fun with just the right amount of dating due diligence.
