Tropical Cyclone Yasi batters Townsville, crosses coast of Australia

Horizontal rain, 290km/hr wind, trees battering buildings and the sheer fury of Tropical Cyclone Yasi being unleashed on Cairns and Townsville in North Queensland as I write this article.

Reports are coming in of explosive sounds, torrential rain and a wind roar likened to that of a jet engine as Cyclone Yasi started to batter Townsville.

Things have to be bad if the Casino even shut up shop. They never usually want to miss a Dollar!

The latest update shows Yasi has just crossed the Queensland coastline. Townsville is currently being battered severely. 9.5 metre waves have been seen off the coast and not the 18meters as being reported. And the tidal surge is expected to surpass 7.6 metres. Huge.

This is just the beginning…Tropical Cyclone Yasi is due to still be destructive for some 3 days and is on target to hit the mining town of Mt Isa in time. It’s maintaining its intensity as a Category 5 cyclone.

Rapid escalation of houses losing power, currently 89,000 – expected to be around 200,000 in time.

Unfortunately this is just the beginning…
