Going On A Date In Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach
Picture this: it’s summer, it’s hot, it’s sunny and you are lazing about somewhere on the wide, 7km stretch of sand covered coastline that you will find at Sunny Beach in Bulgaria. Occasionally you drag yourself across the fine golden sand to the water so that you can re-adjust your body temperature with a quick dip into the refreshing coolness of the Black Sea. Life is good.

That’s when you notice him (or her), not far from your chosen spot on the beach. Before you know it your curiosity has been tantalised enough for you to make up your mind that you will go over for a casual chat. Making up your mind is one thing but plucking up the courage for that initial contact is usually a much longer affair. You finally settle on the idea that you have nothing to loose and before any other thoughts stop you, you put your plan into action. It may be the holiday atmosphere or the slight breeze in the air, whatever it is your initial awkwardness somehow melts away and half an hour later you make your way back to your beach encampment having arranged a date for that evening.
OK, so it doesn’t always happen that way but if you have got a date and you are in Sunny Beach, what is there to do?

There are loads of daytime activities besides the de facto sunbathing and swimming. If you enjoy sports there are numerous places along the beach you can hire equipment for all manner of water sports and if you want to take a break from the leisurely pleasures of beach life, you can express your competitive nature with a visit to the go karting track just to the west of the town. Thrills are available in abundance at the excellent water park in the centre of town which operates free shuttle buses from Elenite in the north to Nessebar in the south, passing every 10 minutes. Just so you are aware, there are various water parks so work out which one you want to visit and hop onto the correct bus. You may decided you just want to meander from shop to shop looking for souvenirs. You will find numerous stalls along the promenade behind the beach and in the pedestrianised zone near Hotel Kuban which marks the symbolic centre of Sunny Beach. However, if you want to add a touch of class to your shopping experience the Royal Beach shopping mall definitely warrants a visit. The best bit is settling down in one of the open air bars with a cool drink, taking in the view of the amazing swimming pools.
However it is at night that things get interesting, you are after all on a date right? The setting of the sun brings opportunities for you to woo and be wooed. You can start with cocktail at sunset in a beach bar, just to set the mood. I remember having a minty mojito with my date at the Mania beach bar, the moment framed by chilled out background beats supplied by the resident DJ. If food is on the agenda there are countless restaurants to choose from, my tip is to avoid the ones near the pedestrianised zone because they are loud and relatively expensive. For a romantic dinner I recommend going to Nessbar Old Town or you can try one of the classier restaurants in the 5 star hotels. Once you’re done with food you can go for happy hour drinks.
